ABELL STOPS LYONS AT THE ARMORY
Report by Ray Kilgore

July 18th, 2010

Heavyweight Joey Abell (27-4, 26 KOs) had several fighters on his hit list these past several months. Aaron Lyons (11-9, 8 KOs) wasn't one of the targeted men, but once the fight was set, Abell, a popular Minnesota heavyweight, had plenty of motivation to win......more

ABELL HAMMERS HOLLYWOOD

In a brutal display of power and aggression, Ice took out Derek 'Hollywood' Amos in the first round at the St. Paul Armory.  With less than a minute to go in the first, the referee stopped the fight as a staggering Amos looked on helplessly.  This was Joey's 21st win and his 20th knockout.  MORE........

  ICE WALLOPS WILLIS

The big lumberjack from Minnesota, Joey Abell (24-4, 23 KO’s) did it again, pleasing the crowd with 3 rounds of target practice which led to a stoppage over Houston's Billy "The Kid" Willis (12-14-1, 9ko's). Abell looks to have added a jab to his arsenal, a punch he threw a lot of in the 1st which would set up that wrecking ball of a left hand. Give Willis credit, he ate some SCUD missiles and still had the audacity to connect with a strong right hook as round 1 ended, a punch that surely caught Abell's attention. The fight continued and it was more of Abell hammering the concerete head of Willis. The first knockdown came early in the 3rd which from my vantage point actually looked like a slip. Willis jumped right up but was attacked on the ropes and referee Blair Talmedge jumped right in to stop what could have been a severe beating. Video with Abell coming soon. MORE.......

ICE ROCKS RHODE

The 'Big Tuna' spent most of round one flopping on the canvas as ICE dropped the big fish 3 times ending the fight at 1:09 in round one.  Joey clipped Rhode early with stinging left jab followed by a combination that left Marcus groggy and stumbling throughout the short fight.  This was the 21st knockout in 22 wins for Joey.   Joey demonstrated speed and extremely effective combinations in overwhelming the experienced heavyweight.  MORE.......

 ABELL WHIPS WHITE

Joey "Minnesota Ice" Abell (25-4, 24 KO's) stopped Larry "Super King" White (3-7, 3KO's) in round two Saturday night in Mounds View, MN. Abell cleverly landed big left hands to the head in round one while bobbing and weaving away from White's counter punching attempts. White did a lot of talking and mocking of Abell in round one, inviting the big southpaw to engage him. Abell smiled as he rocked White on several occasions.
A big right uppercut from Abell rocked White early in round two. White switched his passive strategy after taking the shot and came forward with heavy punches. A slugfest momentarily broke out as both men looked to land a knockout punch. Abell put an end to White's KO hopes with a crushing right hand to the head that sent him slumping to the canvas where referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off midway through the round.  MORE.......

ABELL SHINES IN REMATCH

"Minnesota Ice" made a clear statement Saturday night that his first fight with Arron Lyons (11-9, 8 KOs) was a complete fluke. Abell outclassed Lyons (11-9, 8 KOs) with speed, power, and movement over the first few rounds leaving Lyons battered and bleeding against the ropes . In the fourth round referee Mark Nelson stopped the fight as excess blood began to flow from a cut that was over Lyons left eye. more.........

BOMB BLASTS FORCE BALTIC TO CALL OFF FIGHTS

According to Uganda newspaper, the Daily Monitor, Joeys fight at the Hotel Africana is off.

July 10, 2010

Following last Sunday’s bomb blasts that claimed innocent lives over 78 people in Kampala, Baltic Pro Box Promotions Group has decided to call off this month’s boxing showdown that had been set for July 24 at Hotel Africana.

Promoter Eddie Bazira told Sunday Monitor that the act taken was a compassionate one since the nation was still mourning and in utter shock.......more

ABELL  BRUTALIZES  BAD BOY

Minnesota Ice Knocked out Galen 'Bad Boy' Brown 38 Seconds into the 1st round.  Joey hit Brown with a stinging jab early in round one.  Brown responded by taunting Joey with his gloves.  Joey accepted the invitation with a devastating three punch combo that put the ex-title holder to the mat.  In all his 42 previous fights, Brown has never been knocked out and never has gone less than 4 rounds with anyone.   MORE...

ABELL VS BUTLER

NO CONTEST DECISION

It was the ding -- or lack thereof -- heard 'round the Minnesota boxing world.

The match between friends and elite boxers Joey (Minnesota Ice) Abell and Raphael (The Silencer) Butler was much-anticipated. Their Friday night fight at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis was billed as the first Minnesota heavyweight championship since 1977, when Duane Bobick took out Scott LeDoux with two knockdowns in the eighth round.

Friday's bout didn't last that long, but there was no shortage of punches. When the bell signifying the end of the first round apparently went unheard by the referee and Abell, the latter threw a post-round punch that put Butler's lights out. That ignited a melee inside the ring that involved both fighters' trainers. MORE........
