ABELL SHAKES SHEPPARD IN 1ST ROUND KO

 REFEREE ENDS FIGHT IN FIRST ROUND

    In a heavyweight match Mike Sheppard (9-7-1, 5 KOs) stepped in against hard-hitting Joey Abell (15-1-0, 15 KOs) and didn't make it past the first round.

     After a short feeling-out process, Abell landed a right behind the ear that dropped Sheppard. He got up and looked to continue but had his arms lowered and appeared hurt. Referee Pete Podgorski waived the fight off, which was followed by boos and complaints from Sheppard and his corner.

     The official time was 2:10 of round one.
